Views from Namanga

I was high again.

This time more than 2500m high on the Kenya-Tanzania border. How much had I missed seeing the world from above. Being out in the wild, the solitude  and the possibility of standing where no one has ever stepped foot -are some of the thrills that only a hiker can understand.

The sheer zeal to conquer higher grounds, discover hidden treasures and  glance at the world from above is very addictive. My ultimate goal for this year was to summit Mt. Kilimajaro. Though I have been really slacking on the exercising-the mandatory hikes.

I tried picking up my fitness regime with a road trip to Namanga hills a few months ago. The views from up there are amazing-these photos don't even begin to describe it. I should really shop for a camera.

A peek of part of Tanzania from top of the Hill is amazing.

The Namanga hills also known as Ol_Donyo Orok are the highest picks that side of the border. The hills are about 2500m high ,a typical work out terrain for mountain climbers.

To reach the  summit ,on the tallest hill -you  have to conquer 5 small hills . This is a 7 hour trek (or even longer is you are a  slow hiker .) through  rocky dry grounds, cliff faces, rivers ,pools and forests.

The terrain breaths of life. Chapping monkeys, birds and even snakes only add to the adventure. The bigger animals have been wiped out by hunting by the neighboring Maasai's over the years. Some migrated to other reserves with the continuing human encroachment on the  forests. However ,There  leopards have been sighted once in a while.

Walking through the cloud forest -one of the few remaining ones in the region. There is a waterfall and a pool at the edge of the 6th hill.

Great company only adds to the thrill of these hills.
